About

I’m currently an associate producer in the documentary unit of the National Film Board of Canada, getting my film legs back after a few award-winning years in public radio in the US. (See more on my Portfolio page.) I’m fascinated by stories of meaning and purpose in our common life, stories about the good, the noble, the pure, the fearless, the true.

I play with words, non-fiction and fiction alike. In my fiction, I tend to focus on absurdity, whimsy, magic and their presence in reality. I believe in words like “wonder” and “epiphany.”

My personal motto, I’ve come to realize, is “make something.” I urge you to do the same. Bring something into the world. Draw a picture. Tell a joke. Write a book. Till soil. Build a skyscraper. Raise someone’s hero. Design. Sing. Play.

What am I playing with now (outside of work)? A novel about utopian architecture, mythical poultry, musical virtuosity, and a pair of globetrotting Victorian typesetters. (Yeah, somehow that’s all connected.)
